We were at a banquet to raise money for the high school baseball team that my son plays on. In the middle of the dinner my son pipes up and says that the potato he was eating tasted bad. I quickly responded with "What did you eat just before you took a bite of the potato?" He replied with "Why, what would that matter?" And I said that what you eat before something will affect the taste of what is coming next. And he said "There is a life lesson for you."
It hit me hard, a true aha moment.

You and I could taste the same thing yet it will taste different to each other depending on what we tasted just before. Like our experiences in life. We could both experience the same thing yet from what has previously happened to each of us, will experience it very differently. Even what you smell previous can affect the taste of something...a third variable. How could 2 people experience the exact same thing when in fact you have 2 (at the minimum) variables affecting each experience or thought or perspective. What I am talking about will really hit home for anyone who is any sort of a wine taster. (The movie "French Kiss" makes reference to smell affecting the taste of wine)
So, how could one truly judge another, especially be quick to judge? It makes what you and I go through completely and totally unique. Unique to ourselves and unique in how it is being perceived by others. So before you judge someone because they do not like your cheesecake when in all reality they love cheesecake...they could have just licked a "poop" flavored lollipop.
