That which transforms your life is what you practice. And what you practice constitutes your personal laws of life - not what you merely believe in, but what you practice. It's all well and good to read books, and to attend seminars, lectures, and workshops, and to say, "Oh that really resonates with me! It's now a part of my life's philosophy." Your philosophy may give you a temporary state of euphoria, but if you want to be anchored in Reality, it takes practice, practice, practice. We are not here to be euphoric but to get free. Rudimentary spirituality is theory; advanced spirituality is practice. What you practice, you ultimately embody, paving the way for breakthroughs, insights, fresh realizations, and the evolution of consciousness. In truth, that which is inconceivable is caught and understood by those who are making their spiritual practices a way of life.
Wise are they who devote their lives to evolutionary inner practices. Why not make it a sacred, vital, juicy happening?
First, sit to meditate on a daily basis, preferably first thing in the morning. Experiment with various techniques of meditation that are readily available and find the one that suits your temperament. To guide you in selecting a technique, an important question to ask is, "What is my purpose for beginning a meditation practice?" Your answer will guide you to a method suited to your purpose. Then after some experimentation ask, "Is it working?" Even if it's just for ten minutes a day, sit in the stillness practicing your technique. I encourage you to practice a silent rather than guided (spoken word) meditation because it is silence that will lead you to profound stillness, and it is stillness that attunes you to the still, small voice of intuitive guidance.
Second, consciously circulate life-energy in the world, which means expressing kindness, encouragement, compassion, and sharing your financial resources. What you circulate returns to you; that's what a circuit is - that which returns to its point of origin. You get to keep that which you give away. This cosmic law of circulation is taking place throughout the Universe. Are you circulating or stagnating? Are you circulating love, generosity, peace? Ask yourself where you consistently give of yourself and where you withhold yourself from life. Generosity is a vital law of life, and the joy of giving has its own enriching rewards. When you are charitable - which means having a generous heart - you are a giver. Stealth-giving, or giving anonymously, is a beautiful practice. Find places where you can give to someone without allowing yourself to be caught doing it. You know someone needs money, so you slip some into an envelope and let them "find" it. There are other forms of giving, such as supporting your spiritual community and humanitarian organizations. Through all forms of giving, you become a vehicle through which the Spirit gives of itself. When you train yourself to be in the flow of affluence through generosity of the heart, you align yourself with the givingness of the Universe, transforming the world in which you live. You became a beneficial presence on the planet.
Third, as you celebrate the flow of Goodness into your life, celebrate the good that flows into the lives of others as though it were your own. Giving thanks for the good that happens to a friend, co-worker, family member, and especially a seeming enemy as though it has happened to you is a spiritual practice that breaks down a sense of competition, separation, and the belief that there is not enough good to go around. It eases the pangs of envy that we sometimes experience and takes the edge off of an attitude that says, "When am I going to get mine?" If we are honest, we will see that sometimes we walk around with that kind of despair, that kind of attitude in our consciousness which only serves to block the flow of good available to us. When we break the stranglehold of such a mind-set, we step back into the flow of gratitude and open ourselves to an even greater influx of good.
You are predisposed to vibrant health, affluence, love, compassion, creativity, generosity, equanimity, kindness - high octane qualities that will reconfigure your life in such a way that you will have tangible evidence that you are on the planet for a purpose. You have all that you need to live a fulfilling, dynamic, creative life. Why settle for less than what you are meant to experience? As Sri Aurobindo so aptly put it, "In all spiritual living the inner life is the thing of most importance....God-love and the delight of God will be the heart's expression of inner communion and oneness, and that delight and love will expand itself to embrace all existence."
What a spiritually efficient way to live!
